Here we will talk briefly about the Playback Plugin.  This is the machine that drives track playback.  We won’t go into great detail about it, only what is needed for our purposes.  I encourage you to do some research on this plugin to learn about all it can do.  It is very powerful and well worth your time to learn.  “Mainstage 101” available in the mac app store is a pretty comprehensive tutorial on Mainstage.  It can be a little[…]

Now we leave the GarageBand environment and go to Mainstage.  Open the “Track Playback” file provided in the support files link in the description of part one of this series.  That is the template we will use in Mainstage. Share This Page

Now it’s time to re-export our stems.  By doing this we will properly format them for Mainstage and preserve all the important meta information like song tempo, Markers (song sections) etc. Share This Page

In this lesson we will be taking about sound levels.  Each Multitrack has the tendency to differ in sound levels.  It is a good idea to try and keep them as consistent as possible but to not worry about making each song exactly the same in volume.  We will still have the ability to adjust audio levels in Mainstage, but the more work we do on the front end will help the process and create less work later on. In this lesson we will replace the stock Click with our own.  You can create your own click track or use the ones from the support files link provided in the description of part 1.  If you do, you will notice that the click will not be in sync with your session, even at the right tempo.  In the new Click Track, you will have to adjust the audio region to trim off the first part of the region to[…]

In this lesson we will go through the process of adding markers for each section of the song.  This will be used later by Mainstage and will enable you to jump to, skip or repeat sections of the song when performing it live. Share This Page

Part 3 in the series.  This just shows the process for adding a click track to the session. Most Multitrack files will have a track with their own click sound.  We will cover later how you can add your own click to replace the one with your file, but for now this lesson shows how to match the tempo of your GarageBand session to that of the imported Multitrack Stems. This is part 2 of the series on using Multitracks in Mainstage.  In this video we will reorder the tracks to make it easier to work with them.  In a sense this step is optional but it helps to keep everything organized. Share This Page

This is a series of video showing how to take multitrack stems from sites like loop community.com and multitracks.com and migrate them to Mainstage. This can be done with any DAW but Logic and GarageBand are preferred bacause of how they export meta info in stems for Mainstage. These videos show the process using GarageBand because is comes installed on every new Mac. Mainstage is a powerful app you can get in the app store for $29. If you would[…]
