Multitracks in Mainstage

Posted by clay.collins ADD COMMENTS

In the last Multitrack Video I showed you how you can use Logic to change the key of your multitrack stems for re-exporting and using in Mainstage.  It is also possible to accomplish this directly in Mainstage.  It is a lot easier to do and works really well.  This video covers how to do this and the pro’s and cons for doing this directly in Mainstage. In this video I describe how you can transpose stems to change the key of your multitrack.  This can be very useful as we often need to have multiple options of keys for the songs we do.  The process is very simple as you will see. Share This Page

Here we are at the end.  We are almost done importing our first Multitrack into Mainstage.  I hope after going through this process, you are inspired to dig deeper into the world of Mainstage.  It is a powerful program and well worth $29.  Please feel free to contact me at claycollinsmusic@gmail.com for any question or if you would like to see other tutorials.  I hope you have enjoyed this one and that it is useful to you. Here we get into some fun stuff.  We get to do a little engineering and connect all of our interface buttons to the right function.  We are making the final machine work properly. Share This Page

Here we will talk briefly about the Playback Plugin.  This is the machine that drives track playback.  We won’t go into great detail about it, only what is needed for our purposes.  I encourage you to do some research on this plugin to learn about all it can do.  It is very powerful and well worth your time to learn.  “Mainstage 101” available in the mac app store is a pretty comprehensive tutorial on Mainstage.  It can be a little[…]

Now we leave the GarageBand environment and go to Mainstage.  Open the “Track Playback” file provided in the support files link in the description of part one of this series.  That is the template we will use in Mainstage. Share This Page

Now it’s time to re-export our stems.  By doing this we will properly format them for Mainstage and preserve all the important meta information like song tempo, Markers (song sections) etc. Share This Page

In this lesson we will be taking about sound levels.  Each Multitrack has the tendency to differ in sound levels.  It is a good idea to try and keep them as consistent as possible but to not worry about making each song exactly the same in volume.  We will still have the ability to adjust audio levels in Mainstage, but the more work we do on the front end will help the process and create less work later on. In this lesson we will go through the process of adding a guide track.  Most Multitracks will have their own but if you desire to have a consistent guide throughout your songs you can either create one yourself or use the provided Guide Library in the support files link located in the description of Part 1. In this lesson we will replace the stock Click with our own.  You can create your own click track or use the ones from the support files link provided in the description of part 1.  If you do, you will notice that the click will not be in sync with your session, even at the right tempo.  In the new Click Track, you will have to adjust the audio region to trim off the first part of the region to[…]
